EXCLUSIVE | Paul Gallen believes Nicho Hynes deserves Blues debut in the halves

Article image for EXCLUSIVE | Paul Gallen believes Nicho Hynes deserves Blues debut in the halves

NSW great Paul Gallen says if the Blues State of Origin team for game one was being picked now, then Nicho Hynes should be selected at five-eighth, at the expense of Jarome Luai.

Hynes who was last year’s Dally M Medal winner has made a strong start to 2023 and earlier on Saturday told The Continuous Call Team it’s always been a dream of his to play for NSW.

While Gallen admits a lot can happen between now and game one on May 31 in Adelaide, he believes it’s time for a switch in the halves based on current form.

“If we were picking the team today, I would pick Nicho Hynes,” Gallen said

“In my opinion, he’s done enough to deserve to get picked.

“I look at last year’s series, we had a lot of Penrith players, a lot of Penrith flavour and every single one of them deserved to be picked, but I felt like we tried to play a little bit like Penrith.”
