Energy Minister quizzed on Australia’s reliance on Chinese solar panels

Energy Minister Angus Taylor has committed to investing more in Australian renewables manufacturing, but won’t confirm a dollar amount.

Electricity prices are on their way down, saving the average family $50 on their power bill by 2024.

Addressing the Glasgow COP26 Climate Summit, Mr Taylor claimed solar would one day account for most of Australia’s energy.

Ben Fordham quizzed the Energy and Industry Minister on the overseas manufacturing of the Aussie technology, 90 per cent of which comes from China.

“We do have a local producer here in South Australia, Tindo, and I’d strongly encourage people to support that local manufacturer.

“We want to see more manufacturing in Australia, and it’s a core focus for the government.”

Ben Fordham: How much money are you going to throw at solar?

Angus Taylor: We’re still working that through.
