Councillor calls for ‘one-attack kill’ policy to stop dog attacks

Trent Nikolic

Canterbury-Bankstown Councillor Karl Saleh is calling for a crackdown on dog attacks.

Fresh data has shown there were 4,489 dog attacks in New South Wales last year – equivalent to 12 a day.

Recent attacks on dogs and humans have raised concerns for tougher laws to be implemented

Mr Saleh told Jim Wilson he wants to see a “one-attack kill” policy immediately.

Next week he’ll move a motion for it to happen in his local government area.

Councillor Saleh told people should be able to walk via a park without being in fear of a dog.

“The policy will draw a line.”

Mr Saleh acknowledged that the actions of the dog should be linked to the owner and they should take responsibility.
