Chris Minns determined to close overheight truck loophole

Mark Levy

NSW Labor leader Chris Minns has called out overheight truck drivers taking advantage of a loophole when receiving fines.

The Friday morning commute was thrown into chaos by an over-height truck, trying to go through the Sydney Harbour Tunnel this morning.

The truck was reversed out after stopping just short of the entrance City bound.

Queues were banked back about eight kilometres on the Gore Hill and Warringah freeways.

Mr Minns told Ray, “20 per cent of fines have companies using what is called ‘cooperation loophole’, where they say they can’t identify the driver and nobody gets any demerit points taken off. In return, the pay five times the fine for the NSW government but they can keep their driver on the road”.

“We need to have a look at that too to make sure this doesn’t keep happening and knocking out tens of thousands of people going to work every time.”
