White collar workers have scored the biggest pay rise in the three months to September according to the latest wages data.

People working in construction and hospitality also scored higher pay, reflecting a skills shortage in both sectors.

Finance Minister Simon Birmingham told Jim Wilson the 2.2 per cent wages growth exceeds the 1.5 per cent forecast in the 2021-22 Budget.

“It’s why it’s so important that we continue to focus on the policies that do secure Australia’s economic recovery … against future shocks.

“The security and stability of our region, and some of the adverse decisions that China … has taken in our trade relationship, these are all uncertainties we have to continue to battle against.”
