Bridget Sakr, the mother of one of the children killed in a horrific crash that shook the nation, will run in an upcoming byelection.

Ms Sakr will run for the Liberal Party in the seat of Strathfield.

Her daughter, Veronique, 11, was one of four children killed by a drunk driver while walking to buy ice cream in Oatlands.

Ms Sakr told Chris Smith she never thought she’d go into politics, but she wants to give back to the community who supported her through her own tragedy.

“I want to give back the way they gave to me.

“When tragedy hits you … your perception of life completely changes.

“I thought about being able to help others and fight for things I’m passionate about.”
