A new study is uncovering the benefits of a popular heart drug that could be helpful, even for healthy people.

Scientists now believe statins, commonly used to lower cholesterol, could help us live longer and prevent major diseases.

Chris Smith speaks with Professor Christopher Reid, a cardiovascular epidemiologist at Curtin University.

“It may be beneficial, but what we actually don’t is whether statins work as well as they do in younger people.

“Most of the research has been done in people who are middle-aged, not people who are in the 60s, 70s and beyond.”
