Year 12 students are celebrating across the country, with many finally receiving their end-of-year results.

But as another round of teenage graduates head into the professional world, concerns have been raised about the skills they’re leaving school with.

Writing in the Daily Telegraph, NSW Chamber of Commerce Chief Executive Steven Cartwright says business owners are finding young people lack skills in areas such as literacy, numeracy and critical thinking.

He says there’s also increasing pressure on students to head to university rather than pursue an apprenticeship or trade.

Mr Cartwright tells Michael McLaren there need to be more options for high school graduates.

“We don’t have a sophisticated career advice process by which we help young people and their parents… identify the best opportunity for them.”
