‘Ambition beyond ability’: Mudgee legend calls on Deputy Premier to dock his own pay

Legendary sports presenter and Mudgee local Ken Sutcliffe has blown up at the new Deputy Premier over a decision to further delay travel to and from the regions.

The normally “affable” personality told Ray Hadley Nationals leader Paul Toole has displayed “ambition beyond ability” in his short time in the role.

“We’ve lost our festivals; our wine festival, our food festival, we’ve lost a major rock concert.

“We’ve got 200 BnBs in the area, 3070 beds. We’ve got around 30 coffee shops alone in Mudgee – they are in a heck of [a lot of] pain!

“Paul Toole is new weeks in the job, embryonic stages, but Paul – dock yourself three weeks’ pay!

“Not even that’s going to appease what’s happening out here.”

Mayor of Moree Katrina Humphries told Jim Wilson her constituents are “sick” of the broken promises.

She questioned why the state government appears to have prioritised international arrivals, by announcing quarantine-free travel, over the regions.

“I cannot imagine the grief and the angst that grandparents are going through, that can’t get to see their kids.

“When the good people … the rational people start complaining, then you know you’ve got a problem.

“It’s not too late … grow up, ‘fess up and man up, and say ‘right, we’ve made a mistake … next Friday, free the world’.”
