Alan’s 8.10 editorial 6.7.17

Felicity Wilson July 6 2017

Well, the Liberal MP for North Shore, Felicity Wilson, has apologized for falsely claiming she had a double degree from Macquarie University in a 2013 application for a position on the Liberal Executive

In a statement yesterday she said “I commenced a bachelor of arts at Macquarie University in 2001 and later decided to also study subjects for a bachelor of media

“Due to the subjects I had completed, I graduated with a bachelor of media – however, I could have chosen to graduate with a bachelor of arts instead

“I apologise unreservedly for any errors on my forms”

Does that explanation and apology cut the mustard?

There is absolutely no ambiguity about Wilson’s 2013 application

In it she states “I have a double degree of Bachelor of Media/Bachelor of Arts from Macquarie University”

This woman has form

Her statutory declaration supporting her pre-selection nomination for the seat of North Shore this year also contained false information

In it she claimed she had lived in the North Shore electorate for 10 years – she hadn’t

Swearing to the truth of false information in a statutory declaration ought to constitute a breach of the NSW Oaths Act

But police have refused to investigate Wilson on this front because of a technicality

Her statutory declaration inadvertently referred to the NSW Oaths Act 1990 instead of the Oaths Act 1900

I wonder if this ever got to Court if a judge would be so lenient?
