Alan’s 7.10 editorial 4.7.17

South Australia July 4 2017

Well, that foolish South Australian Premier, Jay Weatherill, and his equally foolish Treasurer, Tom Koutsantonis, have had this coming for some time

Their Bill to impose a State levy on the big four banks and Macquarie Bank is now dead in the water

Despite State parliamentary convention that Opposition parties do not block Budget Bills, the Liberal Opposition has announced it will reject Labor’s proposed bank tax

Liberal MPs, in combination with MPs from 3 minor parties who are also committed to rejecting the tax, will have the numbers in South Australia’s Upper House to defeat the Bill

Weatherill and Koutsantonis appear to be on a mission to destroy South Australia

They ignored warnings South Australia’s energy security would be compromised if the State relied on renewable energy for more than 20% of its needs

Their continuing blind, ideological obsession with renewable energy has undermined energy security, provoked State-wide blackouts and produced some of the most expensive electricity prices in the world

Outfits like Coca Cola have announced they are packing up and leaving town

The proposed bank tax would further kill off jobs and investment

It would also subvert the premise of the GST which, as you recall, was originally distributed to the States on condition they removed any number of de facto bank taxes on financial instruments and the like

Jay Weatherill doesn’t have to face an election until next year

What a shame it isn’t sooner
