Acting Premier ‘confident’ disgraced MP Daryl Maguire will quit
An ultimatum has been given to the State Government; expel Daryl Maguire from parliament or Labor will.
The member for Wagga Wagga is under increasing pressure to quit after a secret recording of him planning an alleged dodgy property deal with a Chinese developer was played at ICAC.
Mr Maguire has resigned from the Liberal party but remains in parliament, and Labor says it intends to use rare parliamentary powers to force Mr Maguire out.
Acting Premier and Nationals leader John Barilaro tells Ben Fordham he has not told the embattled MP to resign.
“The reality here, Ben, it really doesn’t matter what I think or what others think.
“It’s actually what the people of Wagga Wagga think.
“They’re making it absolutely clear that they want Daryl to resign and therefore Daryl should resign.”
The Acting Premier is “confident” Mr Maguire will make the right decision.
“We’ll never see that motion actually hit the chamber floor.
“I just believe the right decision will be made in due course.
“Labor’s playing politics. I’m confident that we’ll have this resolved before we get back to parliament.”
