‘Absolutely guaranteed’: SCG Trust certain turf will be ready for play
The Sydney Cricket Ground Trust is assuring fans and players the surface will be ready for this Friday’s NRL opening round match.
Ground staff are currently scrambling to repair 3,000 square metres of turf at the SCG.
Officials were forced to take to the field to repair sections of the surface, shredded under the weight of scrums, during last Saturday’s Super Rugby match.
NRL Head of Football Elite Competitions Graham Annesley tells Chris Smith they are laying new turf that will withstand this Friday’s match.
“They’re ready to play surfaces. So when they’re put down they’re basically immovable.
“We’ve been assured and guaranteed it will be as stable as a pristine field with none of these issues.”
