‘Absolute joke’: Voice for Victims advocate speaks on Queensland’s youth crime
Voice for Victims advocate, Ben Cannon, has spoken out about the rising youth crime rates in Queensland and the government’s inaction to tackle the problem.
Voice for Victims is scheduled to meet with the Queensland government next Wednesday 6th of August to discuss youth crime, after the QLD Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk’s refusal to meet with Cannon over the past two years.
“These are all public matters… hidden behind secrecy”, Cannon said.
He emphasised the “need to build plans and strategies [so] that these 17-year-olds don’t end up being the way they are in our communities in the future”.
“We need to fix the problems that are in front of us right now with immediacy”.
