‘A very complex situation’: Senior Labor MP pours cold water on Gladys for Warringah

The Liberal Party are courting former NSW premier Gladys Berejiklian to run for a federal seat, but the ongoing wait for ICAC’s findings casts doubt on her potential.

Senior Labor MP for Sydney Tanya Plibersek, a vocal advocate for a federal equivalent of ICAC, told Jim Wilson she doubts the voters of Warringah will accept Ms Berejiklian as their representative.

“I’m on the record saying I think she did a really good job on the COVID response … keeping Australians safe; it was the premiers that really led the way there.

“I understand that there’s plenty of people who like her personally.

“I just think you’ve got a very complex situation if someone’s in front of an integrity commission … I don’t really know how you stand for public office with that happening.”
