A garbage truck has smashed through the living room of a house in Sydney’s inner west.

At about 5.40pm the truck was on Gladstone Street at Lilyfield when the driver got out to empty some bins.

The truck began to roll but the 35-year-old driver managed to jump back into the cab.

It continued down the street though, colliding with a boat, a caravan and a car before slamming into a house on Brennan Street.

A 10-year-old boy and 15-year-old girl were inside the home at the time, but escaped uninjured.

The driver was taken to hospital for mandatory blood and urine tests.

The truck will be mechanically examined.
