It was a historic win for the New South Wales Blues in the Origin series opener on Wednesday. Coach Laurie Daley made several controversial selections which ultimately proved to pay off.

The Blues looked entirely on the back foot until the 57th minute when Queensland fullback Kalyn Ponga was sent from the field for a high shoulder charge on New South Wales winger Tolu Koula.

While the call saw NSW go on to win, their clunky first-half performance was met with immediate backlash with the NSW faithful calling for team selection changes to be made.

“We’ve got to improve our starts, that’s what’s been letting us down,” Laurie Daley told the Continuous Call Team.

The Blues will take their 1-nil series lead to the MCG in Melbourne for Game II.
