‘Arrest warrants’ – Dural caravan inquiry enters ‘uncharted territory’
Five senior Minns government staff have had their last attempt to not provide evidence at the inquiry into the alleged Dural caravan plot fail.
2GB Sydney Now host Clinton Maynard told Mark Levy that a letter by the staff, which outlined why they don’t think they should appear, was rejected by inquiry chair Rod Roberts.
“He’s just told this hearing … what the committee is seeking to do is question ministerial staff about who was present at the briefings with the police about what occurred and what was discussed,” he said.
Maynard says the Legislative Assembly President, Ben Franklin, could now seek an order from the Supreme Court, which would see the ministerial staff arrested.
“It puts Ben Franklin in a tricky position … if he decides he won’t accept the committee’s advice to effectively seek an arrest warrant, he then risks a vote of no-confidence in his position,” he added.
