‘Kids are falling behind’: Deborah Knight challenges education standard
Deborah Knight has expressed disappointment with the progression of Australian children’s education and their future following recent NAPLAN results.
Recent results have indicated that one in three Australian children failed to meet numeracy and literacy expectations
Deborah emphasised the need to “get back to the basics” of children’s education.
She explained that new tutoring programs are being rolled out to address the issue, but she voiced her concerns about these results potentially exacerbating the disparity between the rich and the poor.
“As always, it’s the kids of the wealthier parents who can afford private tutoring or can afford to send their kids to expensive private schools that do better…”.
She continued, “So here we are in a country like Australia with a two-tier system with the ‘haves’ and the ‘have-nots’ for what should be a fundamental thing, delivering a decent education for our children.”
“It’s their future and our country’s future that depends on this.”
