Proposed laws to prevent paedophiles from hiding their assets in superannuation funds have come under fire, with warnings they’re “not going to help anyone”. 

Under current laws, convicted paedophiles can use the loophole to avoid paying damages to their victims.

Minister Stephen Jones published proposals aimed at preventing the practice on January 19 but Andrew Carpenter, a senior associate at Websters Lawyers, says “it’s the most vanilla approach ever”.

“In my conversations with some of the biggest law firms of Australia, we all came to the general consensus that this is not going to help anyone,” Mr Carpenter told Ray Hadley.
