The head of Queensland’s Police Union is backing calls for a national gun registry, after two police officers and a neighbour were shot dead on a property in Queensland.

Constables Rachel McCrow and Matthew Arnold have been farewelled at a public service, attended by close to 10,000 people.

Ian Leavers told Mark Levy he is fully committed to implementing a national database which will record all the information possible on guns in the country.

“It’s just basic information we want, which many Australians believe we already have.

“I don’t want more bureaucracy or red tape, I want a simplified system that uses basic, simple terminology for every police officer to access in Australia.”
