More private data has been released by the criminals behind the Medibank hack.

Millions of Australians have had a bad run with their personal data lately, with Optus also suffering a massive data breach.

Minister for Industry and Science Ed Husic told Deborah Knight companies need to respect how they capture and secure data.

“It’s not just about having the best technology. It’s also a cultural thing, the culture of not respecting data from customers.

“This is why we’ve ramped up penalties to make sure these companies take this more seriously.”

Shadow treasurer Angus Taylor says the key is being one step ahead of the cyber criminals.

“You must have trust between the private and public sector to find solutions to make sure this doesn’t happen again.”
