10 per cent of Optus customers leave after cyberattack

Trent Nikolic

A consumer group isn’t surprised Optus has lost 10 per cent of its customers following last month’s cyber attack.

A further 56 per cent are considering signing up elsewhere, according to the annual EFTM Mobile Phone Survey.

EFTM’s Trevor Long told Jim Wilson the number of people leaving will only grow.

“That’s a huge hit to the bottom line of Optus, and they can’t afford it.

“They need to turn this ship around or they will continue to bleed a lot further.”

Jessie Weatherley of Jork Consulting told Jim Wilson communication is the key for Optus to get through the barrage of criticism they are receiving.

“Optus needs to reevaluate what their core values are when it comes to the customers.

“Rebrands are really expensive, especially for a company like Optus, and at the end of the day the customer will pay for it.”
