TAFE NSW to join crackdown on Indigenous ‘frauds’

BEN FORDHAM EXCLUSIVE

TAFE NSW is following the lead of Sydney Uni in a crackdown on those falsely identifying as Indigenous.

The University of Sydney will crack down on students and staff who falsely identify as First Nations people without any proof.

Ben Fordham Live has revealed TAFE NSW is developing a Confirmation of Aboriginality Policy following similar concerns. (See full statement below)

The latest Census data released in June shows a 25 per cent rise in people identifying as Indigenous.

Metro Local Aboriginal Land Council CEO Nathan Moran told Ben Fordham people need to provide proof in order to prevent “frauds” rorting the system.

“This is a rampant systematic wide issue.”

TAFE NSW full statement:

“TAFE NSW is currently developing a Confirmation of Aboriginality Policy as part of its Reconciliation Action Plan. The policy will cover procedures for confirming Aboriginality for the purposes of Enrolment, Procurement, and Recruitment.

“TAFE NSW requires anyone who successfully secures employment in an Aboriginal Identified role, to provide evidence of Aboriginality including confirmation through the Local Aboriginal Land Council, or an incorporated Aboriginal organisation.

“Students who identify as Aboriginal for the purposes of receiving AbStudy must supply evidence of Aboriginality to Services Australia. Upon enrolment, a student who identifies as Aboriginal is required to make a declaration that they identify as Aboriginal.

“Students who self-identify as Aboriginal for a subsidised Smart & Skilled or TAFE NSW subsidised training course are exempt from paying fees for the qualification, but may need to pay for course materials.”
