Minister dismisses idea that NSW government should pay for driver’s license replacements

Clinton Maynard

Victor Dominello has dismissed the idea that the NSW government should pay for Optus customers getting their driver’s licenses replaced.

The NSW State Government isn’t footing the bill to change driver’s licence replacements. Queensland is waiving the fee, Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania are doing the same.

“Why on earth do those of you at risk here in NSW have to cop a 29-dollar fee for a new licence?” Jim said.

The Minister for Customer Service told Jim Wilson there are a multitude of reasons.

“Optus caused the problem they’ve got to fix it, they’ve got to pay for it … It’s like creating an effect where if we open the floodgates we will have a lot more people coming through and what were trying to do is just get the people who really need to have their licence replaced first.”
