What the AFP boss found ‘sickening’ in WA child abuse raids

Mark Levy

Three alleged victims have been rescued in a massive police operation targeting child exploitation in Western Australia.

In the past week, AFP and WA Police executed 61 search warrants and seized more than 35,000 images and videos.

The joint operation saw 45 people charged with a total of 149 offences.

AFP Commissioner Reece Kershaw told Ray Hadley it was the largest child exploitation operation ever carried out in Australia.

“Again, a great joint operation, Operation Tamworth,” he said.

“What’s quite sickening, Ray, is the 35,000 images and videos of child exploitation and that we were required to remove three children from harm, from ongoing sexual abuse.

“Simply horrific.”
