How a blind university student is impacted by train strikes

Clinton Maynard

A 2GB Drive listener has revealed how they have been impacted by today’s train strikes.

Charlotte Chilvers is a 24-year-old university student and she’s blind.

Charlotte relies on public transport, including trains, to commute to her classes at Western Sydney University and without trains, she can’t get anywhere independently.

Instead, she has to find someone to drive her or stay home and miss out on her education.

Ms Chilvers told Jim Wilson the revitalised timetables are too hard to understand for her guide dog as it’s not trained to know that route.

“It makes you feel really small, and that you’re just never going to get there.

“I wish they [the union] could understand that what they’re doing has such wide ramifications on everyone else and although I know they want better conditions and safety, I just hope they realise that other people are then stopped and can’t live there lives every day.
