Trade Minister Stuart Ayres has admitted he would have done one thing differently in the New York Trade Commissioner saga.

The NSW Premier is standing by Mr Ayres despite calls for him to resign after the revelations of damning documents.

The Minister told Ben Fordham that, while he stands by his actions, he would have advised Mr Barilaro to not apply for the role.

“I would love to be able to go back and say to him ‘you probably shouldn’t do this’ but it still would have been his call.”

Mr Ayres says only one Liberal Party colleague has asked him to consider his position.
