World-renowned theatre producer Sir Cameron Mackintosh has got high praise for the Australian cast of Mary Poppins.

The musical revisits the Sydney stage this week at the Lyric theatre.

Mackintosh is the man behind Phantom of the Opera, Cats, Les Misérables among others.

He told Deborah Knight the cast for the return of Mary Poppins is “brilliant”.

“The greatest compliment I could play this cast is that I didn’t for one moment remember the old cast,” he said.

“It is like it’s never been put on stage before.”
