NSW resident and bestselling author Nicole Alexander focuses on shining a light on the history of regional NSW in her new book ‘The Last Station’.

Nicole used research gathered from her local family history in order to shape a narrative about what happened to the Darling River paddle-steamer trade.

The trade slowly became victim to a combination of unreliable rainfall and drought and Nicole Alexander told Deborah Knight, “My family was on the land from 1893-2020, so I guess I have that long tradition of being interested in the land”.

“I really have to have a strong feel about the time and place.

“You have to be very passionate about what you’re writing about.”
