Distillers slam government’s potential beer tax cut as ‘sexist’

Clinton Maynard

Prime Minister Scott Morrison has a plan to shout beer drinkers a tax cut, however, the spirits lobby has slammed the move as ‘sexist’.

Mr Morrison was considering slashing beer tax in the upcoming federal budget however distillers say it’s not fair they’ve been left out of the cut.

Figures reported that men would be receiving more benefits from the tax cut than women.

Spirits and Cocktails Australia Chief Executive Greg Holland told Jim Wilson, “when you have a proposal that only deals with one category.. that doesn’t seem to be quite fair”.

“Why do the beer drinkers get a break and the spirit drinkers don’t?”

“It doesn’t make sense.”
