As Australians prepare to reunite after a year of lockdowns, Chris Smith has reflected on a Christmas that took place 107 years ago…

War historian Will Davies told Chris the Christmas truce of 1914 saw a ceasefire occur along the Western Front of the First World War.

“The spirit of Christmas was instilled in men on both sides.

“They met in no man’s land and it’s said they exchanged gifts of food, tobacco and wine. But they also used the time to collect bodies.”
