Martin Taupau shares personal growth journey from ‘thug’ to ‘family man’ on 200th game milestone
Martin Taupau, Manly Warringah Sea Eagles Forward, reflected on the progress and development of his personal brand before his 200th game milestone.
He told James Willis why he wanted to change his bad-boy reputation.
“I didn’t have the best record when I was at the West Tigers for those two years, it took a long time to address those aggression issues and how it was going to affect my profile as a father and Rugby League player,” he said.
“Me and my wife Michelle have worked tirelessly over the years, I think it has been five years in progress now, the image that we want to be perceived as compared to what I was on the field.
“Being the enforcer, the thug, it wasn’t pleasant.
“Having kids and being an inspiration to all these young kids, boys and girls that inspire to play Rugby League, it wasn’t a nice tag to have.”
Taupau told James Willis he wanted his kids, family and friends to be proud of his legacy.
