Bomb found behind a bank in NSW town
A suspected ‘improvised explosive device’ has been found in an alley behind a bank on the state’s far north coast.
A number of buildings in Mullumbimby, including the bank and the Byron Shire Council, have been evacuated and a 200-metre exclusion zone set up.
The pipe bomb was found at just before 8am on Thursday and the bomb squad has been called to the scene.
NSW Police Inspector Luke Arthurs tells Ben Fordham they are waiting on the officers to arrive.
“The problem with those type of things is we just don’t know how powerful and what the makeup is of it.”
