Social media playing a major role in rise of transgenderism, says leading psychologist
A leading Sydney psychologist is calling on the government to launch an inquiry into the role social media might be playing in the rise of transgenderism.
Dr Dianna Kenny says adolescent girls, in particular, are sometimes being pressured into transitioning by online transgender groups.
She tells Ben Fordham some of these groups operate like an evangelical church or cult, convincing young girls they’re trans when they might actually be dealing with unrelated issues.
“Many of these young people have had no sexual experience of any kind and often are confused about their sexual orientation.
“What we’re finding with older people who are de-transitioning… will say that what they were really struggling with was their sexual orientation.”
