State review ordered after man accused of sexually assaulting 7yo was out on parole
There are calls for a review of the state’s parole system after it was revealed the man arrested over a horrific attack at a Kogarah dance studio was on parole.
A seven-year-old girl was sexually assaulted and a father was stabbed in the incident on Thursday evening.
A 54-year-old man was arrested at the scene and has had his bail revoked, but he’s yet to be charged over the attack.
He was on parole after having served jail time for luring a woman to his home and assaulting her at knifepoint.
The state opposition is now calling for a system-wide review.
Premier Gladys Berejiklian has vowed to leave no stone unturned in looking at why the accused was allowed back onto the streets.
NSW Labor leader Michael Daley says he would “100 per cent” spend more money on tracking devices for offenders after their release.
“We’ve been watching the underinvestment in these sorts of supervision procedures for these sorts of characters who get out of jail,” he tells Ben Fordham.
“I hope this hasn’t come about because of a lack of investment. That would be a very sad indictment on this government.
“They can find billions of dollars to spend on stadiums but unfortunately can’t find money for things like tracking devices.”
