$115,000 issued in fines as construction sites breach safety rules

Widespread safety failures at constructions sites have been exposed in a state-wide audit.
Over the past six months, SafeWork NSW has combed over 460 construction sites across the state and $115,000 worth of fines have already been issued.
The blitz was prompted by figures showing the number of workers falling from heights had tripled in the last five years.
Better Regulation Minister Matt Kean tells Ben Fordham “it’s just not good enough”.
“Workers absolutely deserve to be properly protected in the workplace and falls from heights are the number one killer on New South Wales construction sites.”
The Minister says they’re only halfway through the blitz but what they’ve “uncovered is startling”.
“We’re going to crack down on businesses doing the wrong thing because every single worker on a construction site in New South Wales deserves to be able to go to work in the morning and come home safely to their families at night.”
