Ben Fordham ran into Doctor Kiran Phadke and his wife, Linda, at a Christmas function for the Charlie Teo Foundation.

Linda said to Ben, “Your listeners saved us.”

Her husband, a cancer specialist, had his reputation slammed in 2016 after the then health minister Jillian Skinner wrongly linked him to a chemo scandal at St Vincent’s Hospital.

When Ben reported on the story back in 2016, the phone lines lit up with listeners saying Dr Phadke had saved their lives or the lives of their loved ones.

“When I looked into the case, it was clear to me this man had done nothing wrong,” says Ben.

And so he launched a campaign to help.

Speaking with Linda and Dr Phadke today, Linda tells Ben “you totally turned everything around for us”.

“We had never met you, we don’t know, we were just absolutely devastated by what was happening in our lives.

“And then you were suddenly talking about us on the radio and it just changed everything.

“For nine months, you never gave up on us. You were the one who got (Health Minister) Brad Hazzard involved.”

Dr Phadke tells Ben “it’s very hard to fight government unless people actually stand up for you.”
