Woolies dodges Ray Hadley as Union goes to Fair Work Commission

The union is calling on the Fair Work Commission to look into Woolworths after it announced its biggest restructure in nearly a decade.

The supermarket giant is creating two new fresh food departments, Fresh Service and Fresh Convenience, which would see some staff made redundant.

Staff whose roles no longer exist would be able to apply for new positions created under the restructure but it’s feared they will be lower paying.

Ray Hadley says staff should not be served a pay cut when taking on these new roles.

“I’m prepared to go hard on this but I’ll need the union’s support.”

Shop, Distributive and Allied Employees Association (SDA)  National Secretary Gerard Dwyer tells Ray Hadley they are looking in to the terms of the restructure.

“Some of this is not playing out as it had been flagged.

“We’ve got real concerns for another cohort we think are looking at a reduction in money.

“We’re in the process of actually looking at a more collective response to this, and actually having the Fair Work Commission have a look at it in broad.”
