Wollondilly Deputy Mayor blows up over ‘ludicrous’ development
Talk about an honest ad…
The Ray Hadley Morning Show has this morning received a photo of a billboard advertising vacant land on a flood plain.
Listener Peter, who sent the snap, said the land faces the Nepean River, with many of the properties in 1:100-year flood zoning.
He said Campbelltown City Council approved a further 1000 properties approved for the development just two days after the March flood.
“They think by pouring millions of tonnes of dirt to buildup the land the lots will not be effected,” he wrote.
“The July flood took the river to 16.8 metres. The river has gone to over 22 metres in the last 100 years.”
Wollondilly Shire Deputy Mayor Matthew Deeth told Ray Hadley it’s “ludicrous” a planning system would allow a development on a flood plain “in this day and age”.
“There needs to be a good, hard look at the planning system as to how these developments go ahead.”
