Australian energy supplier AGL is driving energy prices up and it’s affecting thousands of families across the nation.

Over 42,000 Australian households are struggling to deal with rising power bills.

Poor households are most exposed to fixed energy prices, with some people resorting to using torches after dark to save energy.

Federal MP Craig Kelly tells Chris Smith energy provider AGL will cause blackouts by closing the Liddell coal fired power station.

“They’ve reduce the amount of dispatchable power in their system so what they do produce is worth more.

“There’s not enough power in the market and that pushes prices up and puts us all at greater risk of blackouts.”
