Why there are differing views over controversial Harris Park development

Chris O'Keefe

A “major blue” at Harris Park, near Parramatta, has left renters up in arms.

A plan to build 483 rental apartments is slated at Gregory Place near Rosehill Racecourse.

However, the building is next door to the Our Lady of Lebanon Cathedral and they do not want it built there.

Nor does the National Trust, Sydney Living Museums, Parramatta and District Historical Society, the council, the Maronite school, and a nearby aged care home.

All up 104 submissions opposing affordable rentals.

Developer Matt Daniel told Chris O’Keefe, that opposing the move makes it hard for families to find places to live.

Parramatta Mayor Donna Davis said housing options in Parramatta are still “booming” despite being opposed to the development.

“One of the key issues in this site is that it is in a very significant flood zone.”
