Why Qantas services are in the ditch

Recent airline chaos has sparked inquiries into how our flagship carrier’s service got to such low levels.

The airline has recently seen an increase in bag losses, flight cancellations and travellers being stranded in foreign airports.

Qantas Domestic & International CEO Andrew David joined Jim Wilson to explain how this has happened.

“We know ourselves we haven’t delivered what our customers expect of us,” he told Jim Wilson.

“We planned for having enough people in a very tight labour market. What we simply couldn’t plan for is the covid rates that are hitting us.”

Jim Wilson also asked the Qantas boss how they plan to get back on track.

“We’ve hired more than 1000 people since Easter,” he responded.

“We are seeing improvements, we expect that improvement to continue through August.”

Aviation Writer at The Australian Robyn Ironside also joined Jim Wilson to talk about the current Qantas service issues.

“You have to consider that Qantas does carry the vast majority of domestic carriers,” she said.

“You do wonder why they ramped up flights so quickly when there weren’t enough people to do the job.”
