Why local footy coaches and parents are ruining things for the kids

Chris O’Keefe says he disagrees with the NRL’s national policy that outlaws competitions for junior matches until kids turn 14.

Queensland has adopted the policy with a five per cent increase in participation, and Cronulla and Penrith are reportedly likely to adopt the changes for this season.

“The idea that kids won’t play for competition points until they are 14 is ridiculous,” he said.

“No competition ladders, no finals and no premiership winner.

“It’s hard to understand.”
