Ben Fordham isn’t “convinced” that Australia is ready for our roads to be filled with electric cars.

Ben believes most families “simply cannot afford” electric cars.

The government is about to announce its latest attempt to convince Australians to make the switch.

It involves waiving a 5% import tax on electric vehicles and this will apply to cars valued under $77,000.

There are 30 models of electric vehicles available in our country but only 10 of those come under the $77,000 price tag.

Ben believes the business case doesn’t yet “stack up” with the current cost of living.

“When you factor in not paying for fuel… and fewer services… the electric car saves you money in the long run, but how long are you willing to wait?”

“Convincing people to pay more is going to be a major challenge and if they don’t know how they’re going to easily charge the vehicle, they’re going to think twice,” Ben said.
