There have been questions raised about who is running Iran as experts point out the named successor of the deceased Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, his son Mojtaba Khamenei, has not been seen since before February 28.

Emeritus professor of diplomacy at the Australian National University William Maley says it’s not surprising the new Ayatollah has chosen to keep a low-profile and noted the US and Israel had not expected Iran to name a successor.

“It’s also much more institutionalised and stable than was credited by it’s critics and that’s now coming back to haunt the powers that have sought to intervene,” he told Michael McLaren.
