The fallout from Gladys Berejiklian’s resignation as NSW premier begins as Liberal MPs vie for the top job.

Deputy Premier John Barilaro will automatically be made Acting Premier in Ms Berejiklian’s absence, until the Liberal party room can meet to elect a new leader.

While Treasurer Dominic Perrottet is the frontrunner to take the leadership, several other prominent MPs including Stuart Ayres and Rob Stokes are throwing their hats in the ring.

Joe Hildebrand and Nights host John Stanley analysed the prospects of the emerging candidates.

“Stuart Ayres has coveted the job for a long time, so he will obviously be seeing whether he can get the support,” John said.
