The continued lack of enhanced biosecurity at airports to deal with foot and mouth disease has been exposed on Drive via a journalist who flew in from Bali today.

Daily Telegraph Reporter Lachlan Leeming landed at Sydney airport from Denpasar this morning, he joined Jim Wilson to talk about the biosecurity process.

“In terms of additional measures, there was absolutely nothing,” he said.

“There was no questions about my footwear or anything like that. It was a very swift process to get out the other side.”

Mr Leeming also spoke about the security measures at Denpasar.

“On the Bali side of things there was a single poster … warning about foot and mouth disease,” he said.

“We were pretty stunned that there seemed to be no additional measures on either side.”

This comes after foot and mouth disease has been detected in beef products carried by a passenger travelling from Indonesia this morning.

The Shadow Minister for Agriculture David Littleproud also joined Jim Wilson on Drive with his reaction to the detection of foot and mouth disease in meat products.

“They do present, these fragments, from time to time,” he said.

“The interception of somebody at the airport from Indonesia is very concerning and shows the extent of the problem.

“The concern that I have is basically that the Minister has been indecisive … you can’t have indecision”
