What’s next for you as end of COVID support payment looms

Changes are coming to COVID disaster payments after NSW hit its 70 per cent reopening vaccination rate.

Services Australia General Manager Hank Jongen confirmed automatic payments end on October 9, but for those who remain eligible, up to $750 can be claimed each week from Sunday October 10.

“A lot of major corporations are doing a lot of recruitment; we obviously want to minimise the risk of continuing payment when people have actually returned to work,” he told Deborah Knight.

“That’s one of the key reasons why people need to continue claiming on a week-by-week basis.”

At 80 per cent fully vaccinated, the rates will reduce over two weeks and then end altogether.
