Adnan Syed has been released after a judge overturned his 1999 murder conviction.

The case gripped the world when the podcast “Serial” raised doubts about his guilt in the murder of his former girlfriend Hae Min Lee.

Prosecutors said there were two other possible suspects in the killing of his former girlfriend who were never disclosed to the defence at trial.

RMIT Criminal Law Lecturer Jarryd Bartle told Joe Hildebrand it’s unknown what the prosecution will do next.

“It may be in the best interest of everyone to re-try this case … just so there is a sense of actual justice being done.”
